The Rainy Season and The Pandemic

The Rainy Season and The Pandemic

The month of August ushered in two things, fresh Rain and New Yam! If you’re in Lagos (and indeed elsewhere in Naija) the eased lock-down would have had you expectant-exciting aromas of roasted yam with palm oil and veggies, corn on the cob paired off perfectly with African blue pear. But no, we are social distancing and with the rain now here, gathering with friends for an evening of fun and grubs is turfed . What a wow!

Don’t mind my sarcasm, I love the rain. I just don’t feel it’s needed right now except that the weather is cool and I sleep better at night. All the cons of the rainy season are here – can’t spread out the laundry and turn my back ‘cos it might take an entire week to dry out three tops. Don’t even get me started on washing rugs and towels.

This COVID-19 pandemic is spread via droplets and manifests grave respiratory illnesses according to NCDC. One of the reasons we have been advised to wear face masks, avoid crowded places and give others room in public spaces is so that we do not exchange buccal or nasal fluid – nobody’s saliva, sweat, sneeze or cough should be touching you. But this is the wet season and the flu is prevalent!

Be Umbrella Prepared

You don’t want to dunk into a crowded foyer with people also sheltering from the downpour. Make a wise investment, carry your umbrella,a plastic cap for your hair and yes a handkerchief!

Be Clothes Prepared

Now I know you probably dig fashion and spend to look your best! But hey this isn’t the season for flowing agbada or stone crusted silk gowns! . There are clothes to wear during the rainy season – clothes that cover up,are thick and yes practical. We all know that velvet is thick and comfy but it ain’t right for a trek to the marina surely.

Be Lifestyle Prepared

A good thing to consider is how well ventilated your house is. A well ventilated home should have ample air flow and reasonable amount of sunlight coursing through the windows at least. Believe me sunlight is medicine of its own dispelling bugs, viruses and the likes.

Be Food Prepared

We are in a pandemic and conquering this crazy virus is the be all now. Enter fruits, vegetables and clean water as the warriors. I’m not saying you need to be a vegetarian to survive COVID-19 rather fruits and veggies come with a lot of Titans you need in the war against the pandemic. Get your fresh fruits and veggies – blend ‘em,cook ‘em as soups, eat ‘em, juice ‘em, eat ‘em as desserts. All the vitamins and minerals you need to guard your immune system are present in fruits and vegetables. Load up on natural Vitamin C . Load up on your warriors.

As a passionate weight ‘loss enthusiast’, I help people overcome their weight challenges by providing motivation, meal plans, recipes, exercise plans, tips and tricks simply because I’ve been there.

I believe in life- in all its beauty, dangers, worries, fun, pains, work (O yes!) excitement, happiness. I know that within each one of us is a burning desire to share, to do good, to work, to find meaning, to enhance that which we perceive to be oh so not good about us.

Weight challenges are an individual thing. Beauty issues are in the eyes of the beholder (my take!). But then, there’s a common denominator in all our problems: they won’t go away on their own.

There’s no one size fits all remedy for life’s problems. At khyra my aim is to provide you with the motivation, info, tools, time and community of like minds to help on your journey to a fit, graceful and trendy you.
