Why You Keep Restarting Your Diet Every Monday

Why You Keep Restarting Your Diet Every Monday

It’s Sunday night. Again.

Your phone’s on low battery. Your spirit is too.

You just told yourself, for the 15th time this year , “Tomorrow, I start again.”

You’re bloated from jollof and puff-puff, annoyed with yourself, and already googling detox teas while promising to “be serious” this time.

But deep down, you know what’s coming.

By Thursday? You’ll be wrist-deep in plantain chips.

And by Saturday? You’re spiraling on Instagram, watching someone else’s transformation video… while hating yourself quietly in silence.

Why does this keep happening?

Why does “Monday” always come… but never stay?

THE REAL PROBLEM:

You think the problem is food. It’s not.

You think it’s lack of willpower. Wrong again.

Here’s the brutal truth:
You don’t have a weight problem – you have a repeat problem.
You keep repeating the same pattern – start, restrict, crash, binge, guilt, restart, and calling it discipline.

It’s not.

It’s diet trauma on autopilot.

Let me guess:

  • You go all in on Monday. 1,200 calories. No sugar. Only “clean” food.
  • By Wednesday, life hits. You miss a meal. Or a workout.
  • Shame creeps in. “I’ve messed up again.”
  • You spiral. “Let me just eat this biscuit and start again next week.”

The problem isn’t your body. It’s your mindset.

You’re stuck in a binge-restrict cycle that looks like discipline on the outside… but feels like self-punishment inside.

You’re wearing perfectionism like a badge – and it’s suffocating your progress.

THE FIX:

You need a system, not another restart.

Here’s what actually works:

1. Plan for Imperfection

Instead of pretending you’ll never eat puff-puff again, ask:
“What’s my plan when I eat puff-puff?”
Build a system that includes failure. That’s how habits are built.

2. Daily Minimums, Not Weekly Extremes

Don’t set yourself on fire every Monday. Set a non-negotiable floor:

“No matter what, I’ll walk for 10 mins and drink 2 bottles of water.”
That’s better than an all-or-nothing 2-hour gym plan you’ll quit.

3. Track Identity, Not Just Food

Every time you show up – even if it’s small – say it aloud:

“I’m becoming the person who doesn’t quit.”
You don’t need to track macros. Start by tracking momentum.

4. Replace Shame with Curiosity

When you “mess up,” don’t say: “I’m useless.”
Ask: “Why did that happen today?”
Then fix the real issue – maybe you skipped lunch, maybe you were stressed.

REAL TALK:

You keep restarting every Monday because you’re still waiting for the “perfect version” of you to show up.

But that version doesn’t exist.

You don’t need perfect.
You need consistent.
You need compassionate.
You need progress over punishment.

Stop restarting.

Start rebuilding.

Brick by brick. Meal by meal. Thought by thought.

READY TO GET UNSTUCK?

You’re not broken.
You just need a new system, and a little less shame. Let’s go.

As a passionate weight ‘loss enthusiast’, I help people overcome their weight challenges by providing motivation, meal plans, recipes, exercise plans, tips and tricks simply because I’ve been there.

I believe in life- in all its beauty, dangers, worries, fun, pains, work (O yes!) excitement, happiness. I know that within each one of us is a burning desire to share, to do good, to work, to find meaning, to enhance that which we perceive to be oh so not good about us.

Weight challenges are an individual thing. Beauty issues are in the eyes of the beholder (my take!). But then, there’s a common denominator in all our problems: they won’t go away on their own.

There’s no one size fits all remedy for life’s problems. At khyra my aim is to provide you with the motivation, info, tools, time and community of like minds to help on your journey to a fit, graceful and trendy you.

I’ll be sharing home grown, weight loss, beauty and fitness ideas that help the modern woman (and our men!) shed excess kilograms, keep the weight off, live healthy vibrant lives, enjoying themselves and being at their most beautiful and productive best
